Looking through Facebook, I scroll and scroll until I fell upon this video. It's AWESOME!!!
How'd you feel after watching this? I felt like I could rule the world.
I felt fearless.
Motivated.
Even more precisely, I felt like Rocky Balboa when he was dramatically training for his rematch.
In my head, I quickly made a to-do list.
- Finish all of my assignments
- Go to class
- Study
- Work Out
- Eat Right
So I flipped back open my textbook to finish up the assignment. I stare at the questions. I then stare at the clock. Then back to the questions. Then back to the clock. It was 4 in the morning. I guess I can be Rocky tomorrow...
The next day, I just didn't feel like Rocky anymore. I felt more like Patrick Star.
Admittedly, this happens all the time.I am really motivated.
I make plans.
Then all of it
Fades...
It gets frustrating to redo this routine every week.
This sort of daydream fells unbeatable. To conquer it, look at what I told myself:
I'm not in a movie! I don't have producers fast-forwarding my life to showcase only the most exciting parts. I understand that to achieve a grand scale goal, I must be patient and take things in small steps.
Set an agenda for each day and focus only that. Go out and buy a planner. Write down your tasks for each day and check it off as you go. Look in the mirror at the end of the day and ask yourself,
"Have I done everything I was supposed to today?"Be easy on yourself; if the step you take is a little too big, take an even smaller step.
I won't always have a theme song playing to motivate me like Rocky does. Theme songs in movies also act as, in a sense, blockers of distraction and negativity. It keeps the character focused on their goals and mission. So create your own distraction blockers. This can be going to the cafe or library to do your assignments. If your phone is a distraction, you can have a friend of yours hold onto it until you complete your task.
Progress is key. If you're not taking one step forward, you're taking two steps back.So I encourage you to take a step forward every day. Until next time my friend.
Enjoy,
Jason :)
I loved the quote and the patrick star reference! haha
